Background: Understanding Digital Footprint Concepts
You are a professional educator. You might want Google to know who you are, your beliefs and philosophy, and your accomplishments. To maximize your career efforts, you will want anything that appears on the Internet to depict you as a highly qualified professional.
What appears in a Google search is called your Digital Footprint.
Try this experiment: Conduct a Google search of yourself. When you review the results think about them from the perspective of a parent of a child in your current or future school, district, etc. What did would the parent learn from you?
Some of what you see when you google yourself was probably posted on the Internet by someone else. This is called your Passive Digital Footprint. An Active Digital Footprint refers to content created by the user. You have control over this.
Prospective employers, parents, clients, etc. will likely conduct a Google search of you. Read this article to gain insight about how those people will view what they find.
