If you have social networking sites, be aware that even if you allow only those you approve to view your profile, anyone who copies or takes a screenshot of your posted content can send it to or share it with to someone else. Based on how you want your character to be represented, you might want to adjust your social networking accounts. Here are some suggestions;
- Make any desired adjustments to your privacy settings. Be sure to do this for in all social networking accounts, even ones you have not used in a long time such as (e.g., MySpace). For example, my Facebook settings allow for others to post on my wall, but I have to approve the posts first. That way I can make sure I am comfortable with the content.)
- Eliminate any content (photos/video as well as text-based) that might produce a questionable image of you. This includes friends' comments on your posts, your comments on friends' posts, photos you posted, photos you are tagged in, etc.
- Google your name. Google your phone. Google your address. If you found through your Google search that information revealing your identity appeared on sites that you did not publish, and the information might create a dangerous situation for you or puts out information that would make others question your character, attempt to contact the person who published that site to see if they would agree to make adjustments.
